Intervertebral disc prolapse, commonly known as a herniated or slipped disc, occurs due to the dehydration of the disc. As the water content in the disc decreases, it loses its flexibility and cushioning ability, leading to pain, stiffness, muscle wasting and discomfort.
Many people believe that traditional therapies like massage and kizhi (herbal bolus therapy) can help, but these treatments are not suitable for disc bulge. Excess pressure can further aggravate the condition, potentially worsening inflammation and pain.In some cases, there will be oedema which aggravates on oil treatments. So oil based kizhi and massage is not suitable for all IVDP cases.
A holistic approach, including therapeutic treatments, muscle strengthening, and dietary corrections, can help manage and heal intervertebral disc prolapse effectively.
